Acid-washing should always be avoided but if necessary can be done with a hydrochloric acid solution mixed 1:20. Alternatively a proprietary acid based brickwork cleaning solution can be purchased but ensure that the manufacturer’s instructions are strictly followed.
In the event that any other methods or materials are used the risk of permanently damaging the bricks is high and as such we can take no responsibility for the resulting affect.
Acid-wash instructions for our individual bricks can be found on a label on our brick packaging.
Acid-wash prohibited
Acid-wash is not allowed on the following bricks types:
• 2.1.10 Bright yellow slop molded “Dolomit”
• 2.1.31 Yellow sand colored slop molded
• 2.4.26 Yellow/ Brown slop molded
The brick work has to be done as cleanly as possible. Use clean towns water to clean the brick work. Acid on these bricks will result in discoloring.
Important!
Internal brick work walls should never be exposed to acid-wash with hydrochloric; the hydrochloric fumes can be toxic. Furthermore the acid fumes can cause corrosion damages on metal parts and result in thin, white staining on for instance window glass and shiny metal surfaces. The acid fumes will linger for sometime after being used and might hang around within the building after it has been occupied. If internal walls have been wrongly exposed to acid-wash they can be neutralized by treating the brick work with a mixture of 1 part ammonia solution and 10 parts regular water.
