Bricklaying in winter is at times problematic, especially when vague absorbing or impregnated bricks are used. Using impregnated bricks, the joint has to be as good as dried-up by evaporation.
The bricks are vague absorbing and do not absorb water through the headder ends.
At low temperatures evaporation are considerably reduced. In frosty weather and at high humidity it is practically speaking impossible.
To make the job as easy as possible we recommend:
• Use a function mortar, it has low water content and functions better in winter time
• Use hot water
• Store bricks and mortar dry and warm
Remember to protect the brickwork against frost at winter. Function mortar is mixed with about 15% air; it makes it less sensitive to frost.
You should expect a longer wait then in the summer, before the joint can be pressed/ completed.
