What does the CE-brand mean?
CE-brand on a construction product means that the merchandise in question can be sold all over Europe’s inner market.
CE-branded merchandise respects the relevant harmonized standard, or the European technical improvement. Furthermore the CE-brand secure that the given information about the product also is correct.
CE-branded merchandise can therefore be sold freely without having to undergo new tests in the member countries. The CE-brand is on the other hand not a quality brand.
How to read the CE-brand?
The brand informs you of the producers name, address and year of the CE-brand installation. For merchandise there is also an EU-notification number.
The brand also informs of which merchandise standard the CE-brand is based on.
On most brands a number of qualities are listed. However, you don’t have to inform the value of all these qualities. If the quality does not have meaning to the usage of the merchandise, and there is not a legally statutorily demand, the producer can instead choose to write NPD next to the quality (NPD is short for”No performance determined”).
A notified organ can be a test lab that has a certain approval (notification), to carry through to the type examinations which are required for the product. It can also be a certified organ which continuously monitor, that the companies production management lives up to the demands in the product standard.
