Library in New-Yorker style

The renovation of Herning library converted a dull-looking concrete building from the 1960’es into a hip city library with New-Yorker atmosphere. After many years of ghostlike emptiness, the library now builds a link to the city with a roofed walking lane from the shopping centre street to the bus- and train stations. Beyond borrowing books and passing through the nice surroundings the citizens are offered a variety of cultural activities, homework cafés and the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee brewed by the café baristas. The main objective of the comprehensive and impressive renovation of the old warehouse to transform it into a contemporary library was to create a joint community centre for the citizens of Herning.
